Kenya Pharma

Project Dates: July 2009 - September 2015
Strengthening pharmaceutical supply chains in Kenya made it possible to plan more effectively for the needs of HIV/AIDS patients and to treat a larger population.

For more than a decade, Kenya has faced one of the most severe HIV/AIDS epidemics in the world. In support of the government’s efforts to fight the disease, the USAID Kenya Pharma program provided drugs, supplies, and equipment needed for HIV/AIDS care and treatment. The program established and operated a pharmaceutical supply chain management system that planned for commodity procurement needs, reduced treatment costs, increased local resources for quality assurance, and ensured that supplies successfully reached remote areas. Kenya Pharma also delivered drugs, supplies, and equipment to other HIV/AIDS programs funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
