Stabilization and Recovery
Chemonics works with civil society, citizens, and public sector partners to support early recovery in the wake of natural disasters and the outbreak of conflict. We support the restoration of essential services, governance, and economic structures and institutions. We partner with affected communities to ensure they receive the resources they need to rebound and rebuild.

Early Recovery
We provide urgent assistance for communities to recover.
Chemonics supports partners to transition from humanitarian response into early recovery efforts. We establish psychosocial support services and platforms for victims, support internally displaced people through reintegration support and other measures, manage cash transfer programs for disaster-impact populations and community groups, and support the re-establishment of livelihoods to mitigate the impact of economic shocks. We move quickly and apply trauma-informed approaches to provide immediate assistance and begin reestablishing necessary structures for long-term stability.

Community Stabilization
We help communities navigate fragile dynamics to support cohesion.
Chemonics works with communities to navigate the stressors that come with interrupted access to services, security, and livelihoods. We work with partners to design and implement immediate stabilization activities, such as cash-for-work programs, community-driven small infrastructure projects, or emergency housing. We help establish alternative education facilities such as temporary schools and shelters. Chemonics also brings multisectoral expertise to design and implement evidence-based countering violent extremism programs across fragile and conflict-affected states, focusing on governance, community engagement, challenging extremist narratives, and engaging and empowering at-risk youth in alternate pathways.

Reestablishing Governance and Public Administration
We support institutional recovery to resume service delivery.
Chemonics partners with governments to support their ability to restore essential services and governance structures. We work with public sector partners to re-establish water, sanitation, and health services. We advise on new systems and processes in public administration to respond to urgent needs, such as rapid verification of social protection status, set-up and distribution of social welfare payments, or support for services for internally displaced persons. We also work with partners to re-establish rule of law and legal services, such as through temporary courts or ensuring access to public defenders.

Media and Strategic Communications
We help governments navigate crisis communications.
Chemonics advises public sector partners on effectively delivering critical information to citizens in times of uncertainty. We help government partners at all levels to develop and distribute media programs and other content to communicate with citizens and businesses about stabilization efforts, access to benefits and services, and plans for recovery. We work with partners to reach citizens through communications platforms most accessible to different population segments, adapting content and messages for television, radio, print, social media, and other online platforms.
