Despite Colombia’s early leadership in voluntary carbon markets, Afro-Colombian and Indigenous communities face unclear regulations, low market confidence, and other steep barriers to accessing carbon finance. With strong local ownership of activities, we co-developed projects along Colombia’s Pacific coast, high Andean forests, and páramos to support farmers and communities in adopting sustainable agriculture practices, negotiating with carbon buyers, and reinvesting revenues in conservation, social services, small businesses, and governance systems.

Recognizing that the Caribbean region is highly vulnerable to climate change, Chemonics stood up the Caribbean Climate Investment Program to unlock private sector investments that will increase the region’s economic growth, energy transition, and resilience to natural disasters.
