Chemonics’ Work in Financial Services .

Technical Brief | November 30, 2017

This primer explains how Chemonics works with financial institutions to increase the availability and affordability of financial services for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as for underserved populations.

Chemonics works to help MSMEs develop and improve micro-lending, lending, purchase order financing, mobile money, insurance, and savings products. Through USAID Development Credit Authority (DCA) credit guarantees, Chemonics is also expanding small and medium enterprise (SME) lending. In partnership with host country government ministries, central banks, and regulators, Chemonics also develops appropriate financial sector policies and regulations while strengthening national finance infrastructures through capital markets, credit bureaus, and other key institutions. Some project portfolio highlights including Philippines E-PESO, Financial Access for Investing in the Development of Afghanistan (FAIDA), Asia and Middle East Economic Growth Best Practices (AMEG), the Colombia Rural Finance Initiative (RFI), and the Financial Sector Program in South Africa (FSP).
