Sonja Perakis serves as the senior markets and trade advisor for the for the Famine Early Warning System Network (FEWS NET), a USAID-funded global effort that delivers early warnings of hazard, food insecurity, vulnerability to food insecurity, and famine. Ms. Perakis is an agricultural economist with over a decade of experience in international agricultural development and humanitarian assistance. She is an expert in commodity market analysis, applying a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods and tools. Ms. Perakis holds a M.S. in agricultural economics from Michigan State University and B.A. in economics, French literature, and international affairs from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
