Early Grade Reading Technical Director, Soma Umenye Program Protogene Ndahayo

Protogene Ndahayo is an education specialist with 15 years of experience, including nearly 10 years supporting early grade reading instruction. His expertise includes early grade reading and writing instruction, language education, curriculum and instructional materials development, teacher professional development, school leadership, improvement planning, program implementation, and management. Currently, he is the early grade reading technical director for the USAID Soma Umenye program in Rwanda, implemented by Chemonics. Prior to joining Chemonics, he was the program implementation coordinator on USAID Rwanda’s Literacy, Language, and Learning Initiative (L3) from 2011 to 2016. He also worked for FHI360 as the early grade reading technical advisor on the ACCELERE project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Protogene started his education career as a primary school teacher. He taught high school English and worked as an assistant lecturer of education at the University of Rwanda. He holds a Master’s in Education from Northern Illinois University in the United States.
