Communication, Design and Data Visualisation Consultant l UK I 2018

Chemonics seeks a communications consultant with data visualisation expertise to support upcoming programs funded by the U.K. government. Based in London, the consultant will conceive, develop, and manage social media and web-based platforms to organize and present research and data outputs in a dynamic visual format for policymakers and the public. Responsibilities include:

  • Design and develop one or more web-based platforms and/or leverage existing social media or web-based platforms
  • Design web publications and data outputs targeted to U.K. platforms and audiences and accessible to diverse users, including data visualisation, infographics, and other tools that deliver data and research findings in a clear, dynamic, and visually appealing manner
  • Supervise the management of relevant media channels and accounts
  • Develop and maintain metrics to evaluate the effectiveness and reach of web-based and social media platforms
  • Provide input on strategies and methods for research dissemination and outreach for consideration and integration into proposals and projects
  • Contribute to industry forums, such as technical working groups, conferences, learning events, and blogs
  • Participate, as needed, on corporate new business task forces with special emphasis on data visualisation, data integration, and research dissemination and uptake


  • Degree in data science, statistics, graphic design, or communications
  • Strong familiarity with data visualisation tools and data integration tools and methods; including, but not limited to, Adobe Creative Suite products, SQL, Java, Visual Basic, and Tableau
  • Minimum four years of experience in developing and managing web-based platforms and media channels and developing or managing web-based and social media interfaces to present complex data and information to a variety of stakeholders
  • Experience developing platforms related to dissemination of social science research in international development or international affairs for government, think tank, or academic audiences preferred
  • Ability to work with both large and small amounts of information and research, to visualise interesting and insightful formats to synthesize and present research outputs and data analysis
  • Experience conducting limited amounts of local information collection with project teams or clients, such as through in-person interviews, to provide context and insight to research findings and data analysis outputs
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage working relationships with clients, partners, and technical experts
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise department staff, multiple project teams, remote staff, and other initiatives preferred
  • Experience in tailoring the design and presentation of research outputs, data analysis, and policy recommendations to a broad group of stakeholders preferred
  • Willingness to travel and work abroad a minimum of four to eight weeks per year; experience working on technical programs in developing countries preferred

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
