Holistic and Sustainable Tourism Development

Chemonics has been a dedicated partner in Jordan’s tourism development for the past two decades, collaborating with local stakeholders through various initiatives. Our approach has focused on:

  • Holistic Destination Development: Chemonics led the efforts to develop Jordan’s first tourism development strategy, and subsequent updates, utilizing its proprietary conservation-led and people centric approach achieving holistic development through tourism value chain competitiveness.
  • Developing Iconic Experiences: We supported the development of the Jordan Trail, a 675-kilometer hike showcasing Jordan’s diverse terrains and landscapes, passing through 72 villages and towns, and providing hikers with opportunities to enjoy local food and explore historical sites. This initiative has garnered international recognition, being named one of the best tourism destinations of 2018 by Conde Nast and National Geographic.
  • Promoting Ecotourism: We developed a strategic master plan for the Ajloun mountain region, spanning seven communities and numerous towns and villages, to promote Jordan as a premier ecotourism destination. This initiative focuses on sustainable practices and community involvement.
  • Enhancing Destination Promotion: Chemonics led the country’s digital marketing transformation efforts as part of the overall work to develop and support the activation of the destination marketing strategies earning Jordan the reputation of one of the best digitally driven marketing destinations in the region y and activation with Our promotional campaigns have reached 310,000 direct consumers and generated over 18 million online impressions.
  • Market Diversification: Chemonics led the efforts to establish Jordan’s first Convention Bureau to support efforts to diversify markets, increase arrivals and GDP contribution.
