Helping Improve El Salvador’s Northern Zone Create Job Growth

The Productive Development Program worked to increase the productivity, profitability, and competitiveness of Northern Zone value chains in the agriculture, dairy, forestry, tourism, and other sectors.
Chemonics, funded by the Millennium Challenge Account, addressed issues in El Salvador’s Northern Zone by providing technical assistance, training, financial services, and in-kind donations of productive equipment and supplies.

The Productive Development Program identified anchor firms for each of the key value chains and created joint venture alliances to develop profitable and sustainable supply chains that drive economic growth and job creation in the Northern Zone.

The project supported development of profitable and sustainable business ventures, with a focus on assisting low-income farmers and micro-, small, and medium agricultural enterprises to shift to high-value activities. The project also provided business development support for micro-, small, and medium enterprises in tourism, handicrafts, and other relevant non-agricultural.
