Chemonics is deeply saddened to announce the deaths of three members of a project's security team in Afghanistan.
The men were killed on March 27, 2010, when their convoy was the target of a roadside bomb and small arms fire. The incident occurred south of Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand Province in southern Afghanistan. A fourth man was injured and taken to a nearby military base for treatment.
The men worked for Pax Mondial, a security company that is a subcontractor for the project. The project, funded by USAID, is working to bring stability to violence-prone areas of Afghanistan through community-building activities that improve the social and economic environment in the region.
Chemonics is committed to supporting the victims' families in this time. We also will collaborate with USAID to ensure that the project's important work continues.
"Our hearts and minds are with the families of the victims of this attack," said Chemonics President and CEO Richard Dreiman. "Each of these men was working for the betterment of his family, his community, and his country. On behalf of the entire Chemonics team, I extend our deepest sympathies to their loved ones."
