Executive Management
Chemonics is led by a president and chief executive officer, an executive vice
president, a chief financial officer, and 10 senior vice presidents. They
oversee business development and operations in five regionally focused
divisions, a health division, and five cross-cutting divisions.

Board of Directors
A privately owned company, Chemonics has a board composed of eight directors.
Of the eight directors, three are corporate executives, one is a chief of
party, and four are non-employees. An ethics officer reports to both the board
and the president.

Richard Dreiman,
President and CEO
Mr. Dreiman became Chemonics’ president and chief executive officer on April 1, 2006. He joined Chemonics in 1992 to manage an eight-year enterprise development project in Morocco. Prior to his promotion in June 2005 to executive vice president, Mr. Dreiman served as senior vice president for the firm's Europe and Eurasia division. He also supervised one of the firm's most successful projects — the $78 million Jordan AMIR Program. Before joining Chemonics, Mr. Dreiman managed a large market-development program in Africa involving business and private sector development, investment and export promotion, and small- and micro-enterprise promotion. He also has been a reporter and editor for a major French science magazine based in Paris.

Susanna Mudge,
Executive Vice President
Since joining the firm in 1992, Ms. Mudge has focused on strategic private sector development and sustainable natural resource management. After seven years of service as senior vice president to the firm’s Latin America and Caribbean Division, she was promoted to executive vice president in June 2005. She sees quality project management as "inextricably linked to business success because that is what differentiates us and makes us competitive." Raised in Latin America, Ms. Mudge began her career as a regional development and tourism specialist for the Organization of American States, then consulted on marketing and investment projects in Latin America and elsewhere.

Eric Howell,
Chief Financial Officer
As chief financial officer, Mr. Howell is responsible for corporate financial planning and management. He joined Chemonics in 2005 as a director in the Europe and Eurasia region, overseeing projects in Kosovo, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Prior to working for Chemonics, Mr. Howell served as chief of party for a land privatization project in Ukraine and a privatization project in Belarus, and worked as an investment banker for Salomon Smith Barney in New York and Hong Kong.

Betsy Bassan,
Senior Vice President, International Health Group
Ms. Bassan leads Chemonics' unit specializing in health, especially the HIV/AIDS epidemic. She first joined Chemonics in 1991, where she led the firm's Europe and Eurasia division to record sales. She then left for two years to head a USAID-funded NGO partnership for health before returning to the firm in 2000. Since assuming leadership of the health unit, she has dedicated herself to designing "innovative solutions to integrate health across a broad range of development activities." Ms. Bassan has consulted for USAID and nonprofit agencies in Kenya and Sudan.

Jamey Butcher,
Senior Vice President, Europe and Eurasia
Mr. Butcher began his career with Chemonics in 1998 as a business development coordinator in Washington, D.C. Since then, he has focused on the Europe and Eurasia region, first as a regional representative in Bosnia and then as a chief of party in Armenia. He also launched Chemonics’ first knowledge and innovation department, which has been in operation since December 2006. Prior to joining Chemonics. Mr. Butcher worked as a public affairs analyst at the U.S. Department of Justice.

Melissa Logan,
Senior Vice President, Knowledge Management
Ms. Logan leads Chemonics' Knowledge Management Division, overseeing integrated infrastructure operations, information management, and innovation promotion to maximize the impact of our work. A Chemonics employee since 1996, Ms. Logan has managed numerous projects in Latin America, served as chief of party on an rural development project in El Salvador and consulted for microfinance projects around the world.

John Nittler,
Senior Vice President, Latin America and the Caribbean
Mr. Nittler first joined Chemonics in 1994 as chief of party for a forest project in Bolivia, helping that country to become a world leader in forest area managed in a sustainable manner. He parlayed his experience there and his previous development work in Latin America and Africa into success in Chemonics’ home office, where he has worked as a director since 2001. He has been active in developing new business and serving on a wide variety of projects related to natural resources management and other issues for the division.

Eric Reading,
Senior Vice President, Middle East
Since joining Chemonics in 1994, Mr. Reading has served the company in various capacities both in Washington and overseas. With experience in economic growth, infrastructure, democratic governance, and institutional strengthening, he brings a range of technical expertise in international development. As chief of party in post-war Kosovo and deputy chief of party in Egypt he led programs to improve public utility management, and conducted numerous short-term assignments in finance, infrastructure, and local governance worldwide. Mr. Reading founded and previously led the firm’s working group on local development, which included political scientists, urban planners, economists, sociologists, lawyers, public administrators, engineers, and environmental scientists.

Chris Scott,
Senior Vice President, Project Development and Support
Mr. Scott leads the firm’s Project Development and Support division, which is responsible for supporting responsive proposal development, field staff recruitment, results-oriented project monitoring and communications, and quality editorial and production services. Prior to joining Chemonics in 2006 as a director in the Middle East region, Mr. Scott managed USAID’s democracy and governance portfolio in Jordan and served as a chief of party for the American Bar Association Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative in Russia.

Chris R. Smith,
Senior Vice President, Contracts
As leader of the Contracts Division, Mr. Smith oversees contract and subcontract compliance, grants under contracts programs, and procurement of goods and services. Since joining Chemonics in 1980, Mr. Smith has developed and managed projects in the Middle East, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Asia. He led various business units and helped lead the transition to an employee stock ownership program. He brings a range of experience in environment, natural resources, economic growth, infrastructure, governance, and institutional strengthening. Before Chemonics, Mr. Smith worked with CARE in Egypt, Central America, and Jordan and with the Peace Corps in Guatemala.

Douglas L. Tinsler,
Senior Vice President, Asia
Mr. Tinsler returns for a second time to lead the firm’s activities in Asia. He most recently managed a large poverty reduction project in Peru. Since joining Chemonics in 1995, he has led operations in Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean and managed the company’s multilateral development bank and USAID indefinite quantity contract portfolios. Prior to joining Chemonics, he designed and managed large-scale development assistance projects for USAID and the World Bank in Costa Rica, Egypt, Indonesia, the Philippines, and elsewhere. Mr. Tinsler began his career as a project officer for USAID in the Philippines.

Agnieszka Zieminska,
Senior Vice President, Human Resources
Ms. Zieminska oversees personnel systems, professional development, entry-level recruitment, training, and international security at Chemonics. She joined the firm in 1995, has managed projects in countries from Africa to Eastern Europe, and is skilled in all aspects of our business development efforts. Before becoming a senior vice president, Ms. Zieminska led the firm’s recruitment department, documenting recruitment best practices and developing courses to build the skills and capabilities of staff. Ms. Zieminska has also pursued her interest in organizational development and leadership studies through coursework, reading, and seminars.

Nancy Zlotsky,
Senior Vice President, Africa
After serving for three years as senior vice president of the Project Development and Support division, Ms. Zlotsky returned to the Africa region in 2007 as senior vice president. Previously, she was a senior manager in the executive office who mentored staff in project, proposal, and communications initiatives. She joined Chemonics in 1988, serving as the Africa region’s marketing manager for eight years and then contributing to new business and project design activities for five years while based in Cote d'Ivoire and Uganda.
